Emma Does Her Nails

Back to blogging this week. I took off last week to clear my head, it was an anxious week for no reason in particular. In reality this week was pretty great. I had meetings, I saw Waiting For Godot with my love, my best friend came into the city and I had a couple of really hilarious nights with some really great friends.

Well now I'm back to shoot and post. Usually on Sunday's I do a small weekly recap of somethings I posted on Instagram but this week I'm going to do something a little different.

I've had a surprising amount of people ask me about my manicures and where the inspiration came from and stuff. So here we go, a brief post on manicures:

I end up finding a lot of inspiration for designs on pinterest. I usually will see pin like the one on the left and just go with a new color.

I'm such a huge fan of glitter gradient manicures. I saw the manicure on the left and it kind of reminded me of the red and gold colors (it's actually just a glare on the nails) associated with the astrological sign Leo. As a very proud Leo I decided to put my own spin on it.

Sometimes I just get inspired by colors I find online.

Again, Pinterest can be one of the best places to find manicure inspiration. Decided to go with a silver glitter instead of a reflective polish for this manicure.

Bachelorette was a pretty terrible movie but Lizzy Caplan's nails in the movie were pretty damn memorable. I loved the dark red with a bright pop of white in a half moon mani.

Did I mention that I LOVE glitter gradient manicures? I saw this manicure in the picture on the left and went straight to the salon and was able to find a person who could replicate it. The colors were inspired by winter and ice because this winter, when I got the manicure, was terrible and just so cold. Decided if it was going to be cold I might as well just embrace my inner ice fairy.

Adrienne Cahill

On Thursday I got to hang out with the always lovely Addy. She's an old friend of B's from home and I met her at our friend Sybil's birthday party. We connected over a mutual love of the arts and bonded later over a project we'll collaborating on with my best friend. We spent the day wandering the lower east side talking eating sweets (it was national macaron day), talking about our upcoming projects and taking as many photos as we could. Addy is always thinking outside of the box and easily one of the most creative girls I have ever met. She's currently finishing up her film Burying Marilyn, starring with her boyfriend in a hilarious web series called Homebodies and just launched a kickstarter for her new project with friend Lily Azrielant called So Delicious (this pussy doesn't have teeth). All project are under the production company she cofounded called Lofty Entertainment.

I was so excited when we finally found time in both of our schedules to get together and shoot.

Exploring old New York/keepin it casual

I have lived in New York City for 22 years of my life and it has been a crazy ride.

I got to play in the greatest city in the world as a child. I saw Picasso, Monet and Pollock while spending hot summers in the air conditioned museums. I got to play at the "top of the world" on the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center as a kid and loved every minute of it. As a teenager, New York pushed me to grow up a little faster than most but I wouldn't trade my experience of growing up here for anything in the world.

Today B and I went to the New York Public Library in Bryant Park, a place I've never been to in these 22 years of being a New Yorker. I had been wanting to go for the longest time because I heard wonderful things about it. It seemed like the perfect place to take my love, since he's a lover of all books, a writer and has been wanting a New York library card for the longest time.

If you haven't been, go. The architecture is so beautiful, especially the ceilings. Here is to hoping that it doesn't become "a glorified internet cafe" (thanks for showing me this Carter!)

We also decided to mix this week's style post with this because we've both been stressed with work and meetings but next week we'll be back on schedule to bring you a proper post!

Changes to Emma Lauren Photography

Dear friends,

This blog post is one that has come of frustration and hopefully will make things easier to understand.

I am a 22 year old photographer is New York City. I love what I do and I can't imagine doing anything else. I do all sorts of work from fashion editorials to events to headshots. This is my business and how I make my income. I know that I can offer quality work and have some of the best deals that are fair for me and my client.

For months, I have had people book dates to schedule shoots and then cancel the day before with no reschedule date in sight. Most recently, I had gotten to a shoot at the time agree upon only to have the client cancel and not pay because they were "too hungover to shoot.

I love what I do, I love working with new and interesting people but I have to put my foot down at some point.

From now on when you book a session with me you will be asked to put down a $100 down payment that will be refundable up to 48 hours before the shoot.

Simple right? It's something I honestly should have been doing way before but we live and we learn.

Now there are small exceptions to the new cancellation policy such as weather but an email with all of the new details will be sent to you when you book with me.

Honestly, I feel strange having to post this but I just need to make sure that it's said.

As I said before I love what I do and I love working with new people and I hope to keep doing it! If you have any questions whatsoever please feel free to email me.

Brynn Watkins

Last Tuesday New York City pulled it together and gave us one incredibly beautiful spring day. It had been such a long time since I had seen New Yorkers outside enjoying the weather, it was really lovely. I noticed so many photographers out and about taking advantage of the sun and the warmth. I was excited to take advantage of it as well and met up with fashion blogger Brynn Watkins of Beingelliott.com. We headed up to my friend Noah's roof and took in the sights and sounds of New York City. I love being able to enjoy rooftops when the weather is warm. I always feel closer to the city while getting to remove myself from the crowds.

I asked Brynn some questions about blogging, fashion and life.

How long have you been blogging/what made you decide to start?

I needed an outlet to put my creative juices into, and blogging seemed like the perfect solution. I started Being Elliott in late 2012 and I have loved every minute of it since. I love interacting with my viewers and interviewing designers and creative minds in the industry. I love hearing all of their stories. I feel like it furthers my own story in a rich, fulfilling way. My work with Being Elliott focuses on telling others about the amazing world of fashion and design out there. I want to give my readers inspiration and a smile everyday. I hope my viewers can sit back and read my blog when they are looking for an outlet for inspiration and self expression.

What has been the most fun thing to come out of blogging?

I love the community having a blog and being a blogger creates. Being Elliott has brought me together with so many talented individuals. It's a wonderful experience to interview and collaborate with creative artists, from amazing clothing designers to skilled leather artisans, to accomplished furniture crafters. I love developing friendships with these unique individuals. Being Elliott has created a portal for interesting conversations and great friendships!

Do you have favorite designers? Why them?

3.1 Phillip Lim. His style of minimalism and elegant line is easy to fall in love with. Tom Ford, for his use of the color red as a focal point. Oscar de la Renta, for bringing my every editorial fashion fantasy to life!
